Sun Smart

We are sun smart at Russell School.

In the summer we wear hats at morning tea and lunchtime.

Hasn't Harmony got a great hat! Not only does it keep the sun off her face, it looks beautiful too.

Food needed

We started with some of these:

Healthy swan plants with lots of leaves. Then we added some of these:

Now we have:

No leaves - just sticks with caterpillars on!

They have eaten all the leaves!

Help - do you have any swan plants we could feed them?

White Ribbon Riders

On Rangihana's 6th birthday the White Ribbon Riders came to Russell School.

The riders told us why they wear white ribbons and are riding throughout New Zealand.
They want to make sure that people are safe and no one is hurt by anybody else.

Here is the birthday boy
sitting on one of the bikes.

Lucky Rangihana.  What a cool thing to do on your birthday.

Meeting Joy Cowley

This is a book by the amazing author Joy Cowley.

Last week Isabella and two others from the junior school got to go to Raroa Intermediate and meet her.

Joy presented the girls with a copy of her book "Stories of the Wild West Gang".

Here is a photo of Isabella shaking hands with Joy.

And here she is sitting on Joy's knee!

A big, big thank you to Leanne and Chrissie, the fantastic parents, who made the trip possible.
